Harford County RACES participated in the federally-evaluated Peach Bottom Nuclear Exercise in the spring of 2018. RACES personnel participated in the Table Top Exercise, the Sheltering/Decon Exercise, and the Full-Scale Exercise. The tabletop and full-scale exercises both took place at the Harford County Dept. of Emergency Services (DES).
During the sheltering exercise, RACES volunteers set up amateur radio stations at Harford Community College and Harford Technical High School, which are designated sheltering and decon facilities during a nuclear emergency at Peach Bottom. All three exercises were evaluated by FEMA officials, who gave high marks for RACES capabilities and performance during these exercise events.
